History

On a late afternoon in the early fall of 1985, four Orleans women met at Le Gourmet, a local restaurant (now The Hole In One). Barbara Vlacich, Mary Chapman, Bonnie Snow and Bobbie Thomsen were concerned that Orleans needed an extra dimension not present in existing organizations. The Board of Trade (now the Chamber of Commerce) was in place, but to address the physical character of the Town, a new organization was in order. Thus, the idea of the Orleans Improvement Association (OIA) was born.

One of the first projects was to fund the brick sidewalks in the Village Center. Since then, many other beautification activities have been accomplished. In 1999, the OIA was given the Pride in Cape Cod award and grant from the Cape Cod Chamber of Commerce and a number of local banks. Other grants have been applied for and awarded to aid in funding.
